Railcare and Trafikverket are testing HVO100 fuel on the SR700 snow-clearing machine located in Stockholm during the winter.
– We want to be part of the transition to an even more sustainable railway, therefore it is important that we are now testing fossil-free fuel on our snow machines says Jonny Granlund, Business Area Manager, Contracting Sweden.
Railcare has developed a snow machine, that collects snow from the railway track. The snow is then melted into water and stored in the machine’s large tank, thus removing the snow from the track, instead of moving it elsewhere in the track area.
– The challenge is not whether HVO100 works in the machines, because we know it does. However, what we and Trafikverket primarily want to get working is the logistics of fuel handling, both storage and purchasing, says Jonny and concludes:
– This largest machine, the SR700, is mainly used at railway yards in central areas. So fossil-free fuel is good for us, the environment and nearby residents.
