Railcare has Sweden's first ERA-qualified teachers in safety leadership

Railcare has taken another step to strengthen safety in the railway sector as the company now has Sweden’s first two teachers qualified by the European Railway Agency (ERA) to train in their model for safety leadership.

Safety Manager Hans Flodmark and Joakim Helsing, Safety Manager for Railcare’s Transport Operations, have been approved to deliver ERA’s 1-day safety leadership training programme.

The training focuses on how leadership directly affects safety in the workplace. It is mainly based on seven film sequences that evoke emotions and create engagement, opening up discussions around the theories of the training. The aim is to provide participants with insights and practical tools to contribute by being inspirational, courageous and trustworthy.

Hans Flodmark, Safety Manager at Railcare, says:

‘We are extremely proud to be the first Swedish company to offer this training “in-house”. Having completed the ERA Train-the-Trainer programme ourselves and translated the material into Swedish, we look forward to using this tool to build an even stronger safety culture within Railcare.’

In total, over 2000 people in the railway sector in Europe have completed the training, but in Sweden, only a handful have had the opportunity to participate so far. Last week, Hans and Joakim conducted their first training sessions with an observer from ERA, resulting in 18 newly trained safety leaders within Railcare.

‘It feels really good to be up and running with the training. The safety culture we build together with our employees is a prerequisite for creating a long-term sustainable and profitable company. In 2025, we plan to continue with the training and include more participants’, concludes Hans Flodmark.
