More machine knowledge contributes to efficient rail maintenance

Railcare is making an internal investment relating to the contracting business at the beginning of 2024 and will provide employees with education on machine knowledge. An initiative that not only develops the employee but also makes a positive impact on solution-focused and efficient railway maintenance.

“By increasing knowledge of the overall function of the machines, from mechanics and hydraulics to electricity and automation, we shall be able to make simpler repairs directly on the track. It will also simplify troubleshooting, which together enables the machines’ maximum time on the track,” says Charlotta Dahlqvist, Operations Manager for Railcare Resources, where all the company’s Machine Operators are centralised.

Within Railcare Group, it is the Machine and Technology business that develops, builds and maintains the vacuum machines, which are then used within the contracting business by the Machine Operators daily. Close collaboration has been important over the years and is furthermore a priority going forward.

“We have always had a strong focus on the utilisation of the machines since they are self-developed vacuum machines where education needs to be done on-site. By also focusing on machine knowledge, we obtain a greater understanding of the structure of the machines, which consequently improves collaboration across business operations,” says Charlotta.

The need for the training has arisen since Railcare Group is growing at an increasingly rapid pace. With several new employees in the various operations, it becomes especially important that there is a high level of machine comprehension, and that all employees have the same understanding of the terms and concepts.

Machine training is highly valued. Curiosity to find the best solutions is natural in our entrepreneurial company and with joint training, the consensus on how to tackle the challenges we face increases,” concludes Charlotta.
